Some time on the water

Took some of the lures out for a spin today with some mates. Beautiful water and a great day in the end. Have fished this water a few times, doesnt hold the biggest bass but those that are there are fat and angry.

A few more rapids than I like but such is life. Some bass were caught,

and the poppers were tested,

Ahhhh the serenity...

Barra Lures continue...

Just a quick update, Barra lure construction continues and have acquired a new foil color to try. No idea how the lure will end up in the end but dont know if dont try. Pic tells the story, below is two of the foil lures ready for sealing, traditional gold which in my experience is a great base for barra lures and a tester in blue foil. It will be interesting,

Have also designed a couple lighter lures. Similar in length at 100mm and 120mm, however, slimmer profile. Idea is to both provide some variety in action but also help reduce the casting pressure while on the trip. Casting all day with heavy lures can take its toll, so hopefully these ones will make life easier. These ones should come in about half the weight of the others,

Nothing too exciting yet, just finished ready for wood sealing. These are thru wired and weighted to be floaters.

Screw Eye testing

Made a change to the way I make and install screw eyes thus testing was required before being installed into any lures. Worked really well in the end, need to setup a new test system as couldn't get anymore weight on during this test. Pic tells the story. Screw eyes are 1.2mm and 1 inch in length. Made them with a small addition to improve their holding capacity and reduce likelyhood of "unscrewing". Combined weight in the picture is 120lb held for two hours and did not break. Will come up with something else to support more weight and we will see how high it gets.

All Foiled up...

Foiling some barra lures for an upcoming trip. Two wood lures plus a PVC lure I am trying. Interesting stuff this PVC. Lures ready for foil, wood lures have been vacuum sealed and dried for a week,

and with foil applied. Still getting the hang of this new foil but will see how it goes.

Now for an epoxy seal and paint.

Couple Bass Lures finished

Made these for a mate, will be used mostly for Australian Bass. Frog imitation that I thought came out pretty cool and my take on Cicada pattern, black / brown base. Still got a couple days before they can be fished but looking trumps at the minute.

Some Barra Lures started

Putting together some Barra lures in prep for an upcoming trip. Only early stages at the moment. Lures carved and shaped, internal wire harness installed and ready for sealing. Should be about 30g when finished, dive to about 1m tops and will be foiled for a bit of flash. Doing a few of these over the coming weeks, both silver, gold and potentially a light blue foil which should be interesting.

It starts...

Well fairly new to this blogging stuff, however, keen to give it a try and see where it goes. So over the coming weeks, months... who knows how long, I will be documenting my adventures in lure making. Hope everyone enjoys,
